Title: Medical Assistant
Position Type: Temporary 
Location: New York, NY (Roving offices in NY, NY)
Hours: 9am - 5pm
Salary: $22 per hour

The Medical Assistant is a critical member of the care team and is responsible for assisting nursing and medical provider/staff with a prescribed set of duties in the provision of patient care, including but not limited to monitoring and documenting changes in patient symptoms, checking vital signs, accompanying nursing and other clinical staff on patient wellness checks, gathering medical histories, and assisting with monitoring emergency equipment and supply inventory.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains standard precautions in the provision of direct patient care.
  • Assist in patients' assessments by checking a patient’s vital signs and obtaining the patient’s medical history.
  • Assist RN in well visits by obtaining vital signs (i.e., blood pressure, pulse, breathing rate, and temperature).
  • Assist in procedures that are appropriate relative to the company’s policy and/or general clinical operating standards as requested – EKG, etc.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse with monitoring emergency supplies – O2 tanks, Defib pads/battery, and emergency medication boxes - and promptly reports malfunction, missing, or damaged equipment to the RN.
  • Ensure and maintain an adequate inventory of all necessary supplies, including medical equipment, forms, and other inventory that might be appropriate or required by the physician.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of all activities including vital signs, report any unusual changes/occurrences to the attention of the RN.
  • Communicates necessary information to the Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrates professionalism by maintaining high standards of clinical care and staying current on clinical and medical issues.
  • Attends patient case conferences to demonstrate effective coordination and continuity of patient care.
  • Cooperates and is reliable with providing on-call coverage.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships and open lines of communication with personnel from physician’s office, area hospitals, clinics, etc. to assure the flow of information and continuity of care.
  • Uses appropriate infection control procedures and safety measures.
  • Assists in orienting/precepting new staff when necessary.
  • Coordinates with Charge Nurse to improve deficient services and the development and implementation of a plan of correction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse.
Requirements:
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Experience with persons with HIV/AIDS, histories of substance use, and/or mental illness a plus.
  • Experience working in a setting that promotes interdisciplinary care planning.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).
