Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Child & Adolescent Psych Unit
Position Type: Short-Term, Temporary (3 months)
Location: Syracuse, NY
Hours: Days/Evenings
Salary: $45 per hour
Work Authorization: Applicants must have authorization to work for any U.S. employer without requiring sponsorship.

Shifts Available:
  • 1 Day Shift
  • 1 Day/Evening Shift
    Schedule Requirement: Every other weekend + select holidays

Position Overview
Our client is seeking dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join the Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Unit, with additional staffing needs in the Adult Psych Unit and Psych Float Pool. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric care in an inpatient setting.

Candidates should bring strong clinical judgment, emotional resilience, and the ability to support patients and families during acute psychiatric episodes. Pediatric experience is preferred, and psychiatric experience is required.

Key Responsibilities
The LPN will provide comprehensive patient care and support nursing operations with minimal supervision, including:
Clinical Care
  • Perform the majority of patient care functions within an acute inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Greet and prepare patients for exams; escort to exam rooms.
  • Take and accurately document vital signs and patient progress.
  • Assist physicians and nurses during exams and procedures.
  • Administer injections and assist with paps and additional clinical procedures.
  • Implement nursing care as directed by the primary or associate RN per nursing care plan.
  • Observe, document, and report patient responses to treatment or changes in condition.
  • Support de-escalation efforts and promote a safe therapeutic environment.
Unit & Administrative Support
  • Maintain clean, organized exam rooms and clinical areas.
  • Set up trays and equipment for injections and procedures.
  • Assist with reception, appointment scheduling, filing, and chart preparation.
  • Coordinate with insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations (PT, MRI, CT, surgery, etc.).
  • Contact primary care physicians to obtain or extend referrals.
  • Support general office responsibilities and unit management activities.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) effectively to document patient care.

Required Qualifications
  • Current New York State LPN License (active and unencumbered).
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain/renew prior to start date.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to perform clinical duties with minimal orientation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Pediatric experience (highly preferred).
  • Psychiatric or inpatient behavioral health experience (required).
  • Prior experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to perform EKG application (highly desired).
