Position Summary
Penda Aiken inc. is a staffing firm located in Brooklyn New York. Our client is a premier healthcare facility and is seeking a detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) professional to join their team in Jamaica, New York. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), these roles focus on the treatment, comprehensive clinical oversight, and direct care of residents, including serving a caseload of 20 to 40 veterans. The successful candidates will be responsible for medication administration, clinical monitoring, wound care, and the supervision of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to ensure high-quality care planning and delivery.

This is a fast-paced role requiring high reliability, punctuality, and the ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

Multiple shifts are available to accommodate your schedule:

  • Morning: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Evening: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM

  • Night: 11:30 PM – 8:00 AM
Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities: Provide direct care including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, injectable, inhaled) and oxygen therapy. Perform wound care, dressing changes, skin assessments, and preventive skin care. Insert, maintain, and monitor urinary catheters, feeding tubes, and IVs (as permitted by state regulations).

  • Supervision & Delegation: Supervise, direct, and guide CNAs in daily resident care tasks. Ensure CNAs adhere strictly to established care plans, and perform skin observations during showers and pre/post-dialysis to document and report any abnormalities.

  • Monitoring & Diagnostics: Check vital signs and weights, assisting CNAs with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Collect lab specimens (urine, stool, sputum, and finger-stick blood), and promptly report lab values and diagnostic results to the supervising RN or physician.

  • Communication & Documentation: Maintain prompt, accurate medical records of all care provided, observations, and changes in resident status. Participate in thorough shift hand-off reports to ensure seamless continuity of care.

  • Care Planning & Advocacy: Assist the interdisciplinary team in reviewing, updating, and implementing resident care plans under RN supervision. Advocate for resident rights, promote dignity, and provide emotional support and health education to residents and their families.

  • Emergency Response: Recognize and respond swiftly to medical emergencies (e.g., falls, seizures, cardiac/respiratory distress). Perform CPR and first aid as required, ensuring immediate notification to the supervising RN or physician.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Education & Licensure: Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program and a valid, current New York State LPN license.

  • Certifications: Current BLS/CPR certification.

  • Technical & Clinical Skills: Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) documentation, medication administration, wound care protocols, and the use of assistive mobility/transfer devices.

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact compassionately with residents, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare providers.
