Title: Safety Managers
Position Type: Long-Term, Temporary (1+ years)
Location: New York, NY
Hours: TBD
Salary: $54.10 per hour

Our client, NYC's largest transportation agency, is seeking to hire Safety Managers for its modernization program.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety Assurance Leadership:
    • Lead safety assurance activities across all project phases, including design, implementation, testing, and commissioning.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and reviews to identify risks and implement corrective actions.

  • Management of ISA Consultants:
    • Manage the activities and deliverables of Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) consultants.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between ISA consultants, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure that safety assessments are thorough, accurate, and completed in a timely manner.

  • Development of Safety Plans:
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive safety plans that outline objectives, processes, and metrics for safety management.
    • Incorporate safety requirements into project planning, design, and implementation activities.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of safety plans and update them as necessary to address evolving project needs.

  • Achievement of Safety Objectives:
    • Ensure that all safety objectives are met, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, and compliance with industry standards.
    • Support teams in achieving safety certification and approvals for transit systems and equipment.
    • Provide regular safety performance reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in safety management, preferably within transit, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working with ISA consultants and managing safety assurance processes.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulatory frameworks applicable to transit systems (e.g., ISO 26262, EN 50126/28/29).
  • Proficiency in safety analysis techniques such as FMEA, FTA, and HAZOP.
  • Familiarity with safety certification processes and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on meeting deadlines and objectives.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing safety risks.
