Summary of Need: To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, compliant with regulatory standards in a juvenile correctional setting.
Facility Overview: The youth served are male, adjudicated juvenile delinquents placed with by Family Court. Depending on the sentence, youth may remain in custody until the age of 21.
Key Responsibilities:
Medical Inventory Management: Maintain inventory standards for medicines, controlled drugs, and narcotics.
Health Condition Reviews: Prepare, review, and evaluate plans of nursing intervention to ensure consistency with comprehensive treatment plans.
Medication Administration: Conduct medication administration for youth.
Staff Training: Participate in staff training sessions.
Report Preparation: Prepare required clinical and administrative reports.
Infection Control: Maintain infection control standards.
Team Collaboration: Function as a member of the facility’s medical treatment team.
Additional Duties: Further responsibilities will be discussed in detail during the interview.
Qualifications:
Licensure: Licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State.
Experience: Minimum of one year of post-licensure nursing experience.
Skills:
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Knowledge of infection control standards and practices.
Work Schedule:
Hours: Days – 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, alternating weekends, pass days to be discussed.
Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week with a 30-minute lunch break.
Background Investigation Requirements:
Criminal Background Check (CBC): Includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted to obtain a record of their criminal history information.
Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR): All prospective employees will be screened against the SCR.
Staff Exclusion List (SEL): Prospective appointees will be checked against the SEL maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
Currently, there are no vaccine requirements. Supervision staff will be present when the employee is providing nursing care to youth.
