Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Investigator
Position Type: Long-term, temporary (1+ years)
Location: Albany, NY (12204)
Hours: Full-time, 7.5 hours daily, 9AM to 5PM
Start Date: 03/01/2025

Position Overview: We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Medical Investigator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough medical reviews and investigations to ensure compliance with New York State Public Health Law, Section 230. This role involves reviewing medical records, investigating complaints, and coordinating with medical professionals to uphold the highest standards of medical practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Medical Reviews: Perform clinical reviews of medical records to assess the appropriateness of care based on generally accepted minimum standards of medical practice.
  • Complaint Investigation: Investigate complaints and develop investigative plans for cases involving violations of NYS Public Health Law, Section 230.
  • Interviews: Conduct telephone interviews with complainants and physicians to gather relevant information.
  • Coordination: Work with Medical Coordinators to review patient files and provide opinions on the standard of care.
  • Correspondence: Draft correspondence to subjects of investigation in compliance with NYS Public Health Law, Section 230.
  • Data Review: Obtain and review confidential data necessary to locate subjects of investigation.
  • Case Summarization: Review and summarize all previous OPMC investigations of the subject physician.
  • Documentation: Document all investigative actions using the established OPMC protocol and maintain the OPMC database iTrak to reflect all completed investigative actions.
  • Summary Preparation: Prepare investigative summaries of all actions, including recommendations for case disposition.
  • Case Presentation: Prepare and present cases before the Investigation Committee of the Board for Professional Medical Conduct when evidence of misconduct is identified.
  • Public Inquiries: Respond to telephone calls from the public with questions concerning Section 230.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Relevant medical or healthcare-related RN degree.
  • Experience: 5+ years experience in medical investigation or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Attributes: Detail-oriented, professional, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
