Title: Legal Assistant
Position Type: Long-term, temporary (2+ years)
Location: Albany, NY
Hours: 9am-5pm
Salary: $23 per hour

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and highly organized Legal Assistant to join our team at the NYS Client in Albany. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in office tools, logistics coordination, and legal document management, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This role requires excellent communication skills, a high level of detail orientation, and the ability to handle confidential and legal information professionally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate logistics for the referral hearing process.
  • Manage and maintain multiple case hearing details independently.
  • Operate and manage postage meter and coordinate certified mail for document delivery.
  • Field incoming calls, determine the legal subject, and route the caller to the appropriate attorney or  program area.
  • Coordinate the service of legal documents and ensure timely processing.
  • Process invoices for process service companies.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient workspace while handling multiple priorities.
  • Provide professional handling of confidential and personal information.
  • Interpret legal documents and laws to support department needs.
  • Work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Operate the Cisco telephone system to manage communication efficiently.

Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience coordinating logistics for legal hearings and related processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience in processing legal documents, including service coordination and certified mail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Experience working in a legal or government setting.
  • Ability to work independently and be adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with a Cisco telephone system is a plus.
