Position Type: Long-term, temporary (1+ years)
Location: Remote, NYS residents only
Hours: Flexible, Part-Time
Salary: $45-55 per hour

Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Inpatient Coding Auditor to join our team. This individual will be responsible for conducting comprehensive reviews of inpatient coding for accuracy, specificity, and compliance with coding guidelines, with a focus on Level I Trauma cases. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience using Meditech and 3M CAC systems, and the ability to present findings and education plans to leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform inpatient coding audits with a focus on quality, accuracy, and compliance, specifically for Level I Trauma cases.

  • Use 3M CAC and Meditech EHR to validate and verify diagnosis and procedure codes, including acuity and specificity.

  • Analyze audit findings to identify patterns, trends, and error rates.

  • Create comprehensive executive reports and summaries that highlight coding accuracy and trends.

  • Meet regularly with ECMC and RCM Coding Directors and Managers to share audit results, discuss trends, and plan next steps for coder education.

  • Provide formal and informal education sessions—both group and 1:1—based on audit results, including recommendations and best practices for improvement.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current coding guidelines, industry regulations, and payer requirements.

Requirements:

  • AHIMA Certification required: RHIT or CCS.

  • Proficient in Meditech EHR and 3M CAC.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in inpatient coding audits.

  • Demonstrated experience auditing Level I Trauma inpatient records.

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise executive-level reports.

  • Experience in presenting findings and education plans to leadership and engaging in strategic discussions.

  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills to facilitate coder education and coaching.

  • Experience working in a large health system or trauma center.

  • Ability to manage multiple audits and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with performance improvement and quality assurance processes.
